Packing is one of the least fun things to do when getting ready for a trip. You’re always afraid you’re going to forget something. Luckily, you can typically buy whatever you forgot at your destination, but it’s better not to forget in the first place. Here are some packing tips:

  • Start with a list. The best thing to do is have a generic packing list on your computer that you can use whenever you plan a trip. This will prevent you from having to start from scratch every time. Open the list and save it as a new file so you can delete and add to it at will. Start working on the list a couple weeks prior to your trip so you can add things as they come to your mind.
  • Use the list as you pack. As you pack your luggage, use your list and check off items as you put them in your suitcase. This will decrease the chances of forgetting anything.
  • Don’t pack your coat, purse, or umbrella. If you’re traveling in winter, don’t bother packing your coat in your luggage. Instead, carry it on the plane with you. This will save you room and you’ll have it handy when you need it. Same with your purse and umbrella.
  • Double-check to make sure you have ID. The worst thing would be to show up at the airport and realize you don’t have ID. It’s required at the security check for all adults as proof of who you are.
