Arc de Triomphe

Mount Rushmore

The Leaning Tower of Pisa

The Leaning Tower of Pisa was constructed in three different stages over a period of 177 years.  Construction on the first floor began in the year 1173.  After construction of the third floor the landmark began to sink.  This was caused by the foundation sitting in weak soil.  For over a century the construction of the building had came to a complete stand still as they awaited for the soil to hopefully settle, otherwise the tower could have completely fallen.  In 1272 construction began on the landmark yet once again.
